Mortdale Automotive Services (AU38769) are ready to manage all your Car Air Conditioning Regas, Inspection, Repairs or Servicing needs in Mortdale and the surrounding areas. Todays vehicles are sometimes complex and just like the engine your vehicle's air conditioner has elements that need to be serviced or replaced on a regular basis to ensure continued reliable and efficient operation. As evaporation or leaks reduce refrigerant levels your air con system will begin to deteriorate and will have to work harder, increasing the amount of fuel you burn. Therefore it is important to conduct a regular assessment of the condition of the rubber seals for any signs of leaks or decay which may be causing a loss of refrigerant. By getting an annual car air conditioner service you can help prevent costly breakdowns now and in the future, keep passengers safe by helping to prevent the build-up of potentially harmful substances and a well serviced automotive air conditioning system actually saves you money because it reduces your overall fuel usage. Mortdale Automotive Services care about the environment and have Arctick Authorisation (AU38769) to reliably and responsibly conduct car air conditioner regas, inspection, repairs or servicing. Book your car air conditioning service with the experts at Mortdale Automotive Services! Car Air Con FAQ's How do air conditioners work? A car air conditioner system is composed of four essential parts : A belt-driven pump known as a compressor to compress and circulate gas. A radiator like unit called a condenser to redistribute heat and condense gas to a liquid. An expansion device, which could be a thermal expansion valve (TXV) or an orifice tube (subject to the kind of air-con system used). Some systems have an accumulator before the compressor to remove moisture from the refrigerant while TXV systems have a receiver-dryer before the evaporator performs the same crucial task. Both of these parts also store refrigerant. Car air conditioning is designed to pull the heat from the air within the car's interior area and transfer it outside, leaving only cooled or 'conditioned' air to be redistributed. Hot air is passed across a gas-filled evaporator, where the heat is easily absorbed by the refrigerant (in gas form), effectively removing the heat from the air in the car. The now heated gas is pulled through the compressor where it is further heated (via compression). The next stage involves the refrigerant being forced through the condenser to extract the refrigerant's heat quickly. The refrigerant, now condensed to a liquid, then moves through the expansion device (either a TXV or Orifice tube), which regulates the refrigerant's flow to the evaporator, changing the high-pressure liquid to a low-pressure mist (gas). A fan blowing over the evaporator's cold fins produces the cold air being blown into the car, and the entire process then begins all over again. Does the car air conditioner use more fuel? Yes! Your car air conditioning is using fuel. However, it's actually more fuel efficient to run car air conditioning than it is to have your windows down due to aerodynamic drag. If your air conditioning isn't performing its best, it may use more fuel to run. To avoid this, it's important that you have your air conditioning serviced regularly by professionals, like the ones at Mortdale Automotive Services. What's the cause of the bad smell in car air conditioning? The damp environment can promote microbes, bacteria and even fungus growth inside the evaporator core. This can lead to nasty smells and possibly even be bad for the health of any vehicle occupants. Although modern evaporator units tend to be more efficient, they have more fins, meaning an increased capability to trap moisture and allow for micro-organism development. How do I know my car air conditioning is due for a service? If you cannot remember when your air conditioning was last serviced, perhaps it's time to book in with the team at Mortdale Automotive Services. You should also book in if: Your air conditioning system is blowing warm air There are damp patches or water stains under your dashboard Your car air conditioning system smells funny Your car air conditioning system is making strange noises There is weak air flow from the car air conditioning system Why does the car air conditioner need to be serviced? Car air conditioning is designed to pull the heat from the air within the interior area of the car outside, leaving only cooled or 'conditioned' air to be redistributed. This is achieved using a special compound called refrigerant, capable of readily absorbing heat as a gas and quickly losing heat as a liquid. The compressor needs the right amount of oil in the refrigerant to prevent it from seizing up. Should the air filters be jammed with dirt and bacteria, it will affect the entire system's performance, and it can even cause it to stop working altogether. On top of inhibiting air conditioner efficiency, dirty air filters can cause health problems. Being exposed to the elements and very diverse operating conditions and being used intermittently rather than being 'Always On' can cause decay of the hoses, connections and seals. A vehicle air conditioning system should be examined regularly to ensure there are no problems or refrigerant loss due to failure or leakage from these points. Simply by cooling the air in your car under normal running conditions, the air filters get dirty and intermittent use can cause seals to dry and crack, allowing them to leak. Even without leaks, the gas in a car air conditioning system will eventually begin to degrade or evaporate over time. It should be recharged as required to keep the air con system in peak running condition. How often should a car air conditioner be serviced? Your automotive air conditioning system needs to be examined once a year for any signs of problems with the seals, hoses and connections and confirm there is no refrigerant reduction over time. Regularly servicing your automotive air conditioner system keeps refrigerant at optimum levels meaning the system does not need to work as hard. This, in turn, protects the system from damage and minimises fuel expenditure. Can I service my own car air conditioner? Only qualified mechanics with the appropriate training, like the ones at Mortdale Automotive Services, should attempt to service a car air conditioner. Specific licences are required to service or repair some types of car air conditioning systems, especially where re-gas (recharging of the refrigerant) is concerned. Strict guidelines and procedures must be adhered to when handling certain refrigerants, which must always be fully recovered and not allowed to escape into the atmosphere during servicing. Refrigerant can also pose serious health risks if mishandled. Specialist equipment is also required as the air conditioning system is under extreme pressure and must be pulled into a deep vacuum to remove any moisture, to avoid seriously damaging the system. You can find out more about licensing on the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) Website.

You never want to find yourself broken down on the freeway with steam pouring from under the hood. Overheating car's arent just caused by hot weather, your engine produces a lot of extreme heat and it's the radiator and cooling system that stops your car, and you, from being damaged by all that heat. There is special fluid called coolant in your system that also prevents liquids from freezing and protects the system from corrosion as well. Do I need a radiator flush or cooling system service? If your dashboard shows your car is running hotter than normal, your vehicle is overheating or you are leaving puddles of coolant where ever you park it is time to have your cooling system inspected by a professional. If your vehicle is showing these symptoms come and see the team at Mortdale Automotive Services. And we can perform a well deserved service on your radiator and cooling system. Our qualified mechanics will flush your radiator, using a cleansing solution to remove build up. Once the cooling system is flushed, the cleaner is drained and new coolant added, your car's cooling system will be running like a dream : A radiator flush might be just what your car needs to bring it back to peak performance. What are the benefits of a radiator flush. Your radiator will be more efficient - and it will last a lot longer. Your will increase your engines efficiency and life expectancy. Get a boost in your car's performance and power. The water pump will last longer due to better protection and lubrication. How often should I get a coolant system flush? Your car maker's log book makes recommendations for how often to flush your cooling system, It is generally advised that you have your coolant flushed every two years or 40,000 km's depending on which comes first. However, your engine type and size, local seasons, the age of your existing coolant, and the total distance driven all affect how regular you have to replace the coolant in your radiator. At Mortdale Automotive Services, we provide at your request a full 65 Point Vehicle Inspection Report for free as part of any minor, major or log book service on your vehicle. This includes checking the coolant in your system and the written report will tell you if we feel a radiator flush, coolant replacement or any repairs are necessary to maintain the performance of your vehicle. If I don't get a radiator flush - what happens? With time rust and scale deposits accumulate and the whole system becomes choked and it stops being effective at cooling and protecting your car. This build up of rust and debris can damage the important parts of your cooling system including your water pump, radiator, hoses and thermostat, this can reduce the lifespan of those parts and leading to expensive repairs or replacements in the future. Can I flush the radiator myself? While you can certainly find plenty of advice on how to flush a radiator yourself - it's not something we would advise you to do. These days, vehicles are much more complex and mistakes like incomplete flushing or changing the coolant in your vehicle without flushing can disturb the sediment and cause blockages in your thermostat or radiator. It's sensible to have your systems checked regularly by a qualified mechanic, and properly flushed before being refilled with the recommended coolant type, the system purged of any air pockets, and then the whole system checked by a professional again to ensure full working order and to prevent any costly breakdowns in the future. Radiator coolant is toxic and needs to be handled very carefully. It has a sweet smell which can be inviting to children and pets so proper storage is very important - having an expert do this job for you means not handling or having dangerous chemicals around your house. Dangerous coolant also needs to be disposed of in a safe way, professional workshops can have the coolant recycled or properly disposed of to save the environment.

When to get a service An important part of keeping all aspects of your vehicle working properly is to stick to your regular Log Book servicing schedule. However, if you notice any of the following symptoms you should get your vehicle checked out as soon as possible; Steering Wheel Vibration or pulsing Nose diving and swerving - bonnet dips when braking or slowing down Car veers in side winds Car rocks and rolls over bumps and doesn't hug bends when cornering Uneven tyre wear Makes a rattling noise Clunking over bumps Bouncing, dipping and diving Our suspension and shock absorber services include inspection, diagnosis, repairs and replacements so we'll have your car fixed and back on the road time. Don't delay, book today. Some of your suspension & shock absorber's important parts include Springs - Springs are designed to absorb energy and there are several different types including leaf, coil, torsion bar or air assisted springs. The springs on different types of cars will be set up to different levels. Luxury cars, for example, may have soft springs to produce a smoother ride but this results in more body movement when the car brakes and corners. Sports cars, on the other hand, tend to have tighter springs which allow for more aggressive driving, including around corners, but also mean a less smooth ride. Shock absorbers - these dissipate the energy absorbed by the springs. The car would not work properly without the shock absorbers because the springs would cause it to bounce up and down when you go over a bump rather than absorb that bump. Strut - this is a shock absorber mounted inside a coil spring. Struts do the job of the springs and shock absorbers plus provide additional structural support for the suspension system. Anti-sway bar - spans the width of the axle and joins the two sides of the suspension together to provide stability to the car while it is moving. For high quality Suspension & Shock Absorber Services at a competitive price, speak with our Mortdale workshop or book online.
